At Performance Equine Veterinary Services we have a commitment to the health of your horse and helping you achieve your individual goals whether you pursue husbandry and general care, horsemanship, pleasure riding, and/or showing.

Meet Dr. Lynn

Lynn Gomes, D.V.M., B.S. Animal Science, CEVMMP, is originally from Nova Scotia, Canada. She earned a B.S. in Animal Science at Dalhousie University in Truro Nova Scotia. Dr. Gomes graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. After graduating she completed a one year surgical and ambulatory internship at Ocala Equine Hospital and has been working in the Raleigh area ever since.  She has been certified as an Equine Veterinary Medical Manipulation Practitioner from the Integrative Veterinary Medical Institute.

Dr. Gomes professional interests are preventative medicine, lameness and poor performance issues, vertebral manipulation (AKA “equine chiropractic”) and diagnostic imaging. In her free time she enjoys riding and competing with her horse Half Emilion and new mount Colero Z as well as spending time with her husband, two dogs, and gardening.

Dr. Jason Smith

Dr. Jason Smith graduated with honors from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, receiving several awards in equine medicine and surgery. Following graduation, he completed an internship with Fairfield Equine Associates where his training focused on lameness diagnosis and treatment, diagnostic imaging, emergency management, general medicine, and anesthesiology. Prior to joining Performance Equine, Dr. Smith worked as an Associate Veterinarian with Tryon Equine Hospital, where his work was primarily focused on the management of sport horses and performance related medicine. Additionally, Dr. Smith is an FEI Permitted Treating Veterinarian.

Dr. Smith’s primary interests include the diagnosis and management of poor performance in sport horses and equine podiatry. Outside of work, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with his wife and their dogs hiking, paddle boarding, cooking, and traveling.

Dr. Caroline Moore

Dr. Caroline Moore grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. A horse lover from a young age, she was involved in United States Pony Clubs and competed her off the track Thoroughbred in eventing. She graduated with honors from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, receiving the award for Excellence in Equine Medicine. After graduation, she completed a rigorous equine internship at Carolina Equine Hospital in Greensboro, NC. Prior to joining the team at Performance Equine, she worked with Jacksonville Equine Associates, serving a wide variety of both pleasure and competition horses in north Florida/southern Georgia. Her professional interests include internal medicine, neonatology, preventative care, and sports medicine.

When not working, Dr. Moore can be found running in the mountains or adventuring with her husband and two dogs.

Cathy Verrilli - Office Assistant

Cathy is our new office assistant. While she is new to us, she brings with her almost 13 years of equine veterinary office experience. She is passionate about customer service and all that comes with it. Prior to working in the equine industry, Cathy rode as a junior in Maclay and Medal national competitions under Kip Rosenthal, and then became a horse show mom to her daughter.
When she isn’t working, Cathy and her husband, Colin, spend as much time as possible at their cabin in the NC mountains. She also has two daughters and a granddaughter, and loves spending time with family, hiking and loving on her two cats, Missy and Peanut. Her guilty pleasures include watching one too many Hallmark movies and classic music videos.
